Tips for Organizations to Attract New Members

Published January 30, 2014 in Leadership

No matter the size, the process of gaining new members for an organization is generally high on the to-do list. An increase in membership allows new people to get involved with a certain cause, while also bringing in additional finances for those running an organization. Sounds simple enough, but where exactly do you get started? This article will help the leadership of organizations better target and attract new members.

Who are you targeting?

The first thing you will want to consider before finding additional members is figuring out the type of people you want involved in your organization. Are you trying to attract young people? Maybe you’re after the more professional type. Once you define the ideal type of people you would like as members, it will be easier to compose relevant messages which will attract them.

Make it Easy to Get Involved

It will be difficult to gain new members if the information about your organization is hard to find. One of the best ways to ensure that potential members have all the facts they need is by having a well designed website. Make sure all the information about your organization is just a few clicks away, and add a link for people to join a newsletter. That way you can add more people to your following, and have the ability to update many people at once.

Interact With Members

Whether it is a public event, and awards program, or one of your organization’s meetings, do your best to try talking to each of the members present. Getting to know your members personally will go a long way in making it worth their while to continue to pay dues. Keep events light and fun by keeping things moving along, or perhaps invite a guest speaker who could further the conversation. If your members are happy and satisfied, the process of increasing membership will go much smoother.
